About the School
THE SCHOOL FOR PHILOSOPHY, ECONOMICS, AND THE HUMANITIES offers affordable in-person and online courses to people interested in exploring fascinating books and ideas outside of traditional university settings. Our courses are both rigorous and fun, and usually meet once per week for four weeks.

Courses cover the great classics of philosophy, economics, literature, and history. We also offer a variety of free talks, interviews, and Q&A's with scholars from around the world.

What Are Classes Like?

In-person courses are held in beautiful spaces in New York City or Philadelphia and are usually followed by a social hour in a nearby restaurant or bar. We plan to offer in-person courses in more cities soon.

We provide free coffee for in-person daytime classes, free beer or wine for in-person evening classes, and students are welcome to bring snacks to share with fellow class mates.
Instructors maintain an atmosphere of respectful communication and ensure that course content and discussion are appropriately informative for both beginners and advanced learners.
Our instructors are chosen for their patience, thoroughness, and engaging teaching styles. Most have PhD's or are in the final stages of attaining a PhD in their fields of expertise. In recognition of their contribution, we give 70% of all tuition paid by students directly to instructors.
Building Community

In-person courses are often followed by a social hour in one of our spaces, or, more frequently, at a nearby bar or restaurant where discussions continue and friendships are forged.
